On Thursday, I was able to interview artist Daniel Rivera. His piece was a video of a social experiment seeing people’s reactions to a couple wrapped in a chrysalis made of gauze in various public areas. He worked on this project with his partner Vanessa Gamboa.
Rivera mentioned that he specifically chose gauze as the material to wrap the couple in because it has a similar color to human skin. He also said it can be interpreted as a bandaid to heal and close gaps.
I asked him what some of his favorite reactions were. Rivera said that he was in a very populated hispanic area with heavy pedestrian traffic and a handful of people asked if they were crazy. He also mentioned that they were kicked off of Olvaris St.
Overall, it was a very unique piece of art. Seeing the reactions of the pedestrians as well as hearing his interpretation of his artwork was entertaining and informative.
